Christmas is coming! So it's about time I gave the Collection Chamber some love with games I should've added months ago. I've got a fair few prepared so I'll be adding one a day up until Christmas, hopefully culminating in a video before the year is out.
We begin with Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty (aka The Battle of Arakkis), the original real-time strategy from Westwood Studios. But it's not just that classic 1992 DOS game - it's also several ports and fan remakes too! If you loved Denis Villeneuve's recent feature film adaptation (and I'd question your taste in movies if you didn't), then you owe yourself to play it.
Before I leave, I should probably apologogise for the lack of posts in recent months. My real job, real-life and a real bout of man flu kept me away from anything more strenuous than watching Netflix on autoplay for a couple of weeks (don't worry, the PCR test said it wasn't Covid). At some point I'll even get around to those Star Trek games I left in limbo back in September...
Until then, enjoy the festive season!
Peace

WOW! Yeah! Great to hear from you again man! Knew it had to be real life issues
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Star Trek Games go...how many are there left that you and Gog Haven't already released? The only thing I can think of is Fleet Command II/Orion Pirates and Legacy
ReplyDeleteWell, first off I haven't fully reviewed the ones from last time. And I've been hearing some have issues that need addressing.
DeleteOther than that, not including CD-Rom encyclopedia multimedia or console games, there's Starship Creator I & II, The Game Show, Trivia Challenge & Legacy. At least that's what I have left in my collection.
AH gotcha gotcha, was just curious. I didn't think about those games
DeleteI presume Dune 2000(the late 90's remake of this one using the more updated Westwood engine that was used for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert II) and Emperor of Dune are incoming as well?
ReplyDeleteNevermind, i see that Dune 2000 is already there got a bit excited and didn't notice it right away. You can freely delete my comments if they are clugging up this comment section.
DeleteIt's there, but it not *there*. At least not until tomorrow :P
DeleteBiffman BACK !!! :D
ReplyDeleteGlad to see You.
That will be a great Christmas :D
PS> Thx for Legendary Westwood History :)
Greg
Happy to see you're okay!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back, Biff. ( :
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, hope you're feeling better. Don't feel any pressure to update, although we're grateful you don't owe us anything.
ReplyDeleteDune 2 is a game I fondly remember. Its relationship with its Cryo-made elder brother (a rare adventure-strategy hybrid) is fascinating. The suggestion of a dynamic campaign (albeit a bit of a gimmick) with the sectors under the control of the three houses really tickled my imagination. But as you say, it was an unwieldy beast - my enduring memory is of advancing rows of tanks and rocket launchers incredibly slowly over the battlefield, one unit at a time. It looked and sounded so good though!
Thanks! It's mostly stuff I've already done work on so it's not as big a task as it seems.
DeleteAhhh childhood memories :D
ReplyDeleteAnd my second OLD PC. I have them until now with Windows 98 on a hard drive and my old CRT monitor.
Voodoo 2 on board.
Sometimes I go to my "BACK TO THE PAST" room and run them.
Feel like a baby :D
True Im nostalgic 1000%
Peace for all
Greg
Oh my, I am so glad to see you again. In these crazy times people think about worst now.
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeletereally cool to see you back :)) May I make one Christmas wish: I think I asked this before, but could you have a look at "Riverworld", it would fit very well with your collection of Cryo games? :)
I'm working on it, but it won't be on the Christmas list I'm afraid. It's mostly games I had plans for the last few months.
DeleteYou can't keep a good man down, sooner or later he'll come back around, as they say! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo I'm joining the "Welcome back, dear Biff!" ceremony with delight and wishing you simply the best of everything good for your hopefully (ongoing) bright future!
Bye for now,
Thomas (yeah, the one from Germany)
Thanks Thomas! Life got a bit too much to even think about my little corner of the internet for a while. Glad to be back though.
DeleteI haven't posted here for ages, but I noticed that Biffman was missing for several months and I felt the increasing alarm of many commenters. It's good to know that he is well. It's charming that he feels he needs to be apologise for his absence, but of course he doesn't, as he doesn't owe us anything. One game every day feels like overcompensating. Take it easy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! To be fair, half of the work was done months ago. You'll notice a very "Halloween" theme in the coming days...
DeleteYes!!! Biffman still alive! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am! And that's an apt reference for the game 2 days from now...
DeleteGlad you are ok, thanks for the hard work on all these games. Have a good holidays.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, glad to hear you are okay.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. Missed you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're doing alright!
ReplyDeleteYAY! I'm SO glad to hear you're alright and I hope that you had a great Christmas!
