The ninth and tenth episode of season three of The Adventures of Superman are here digitised into interactive comic form. This animated episode again written by Oscar Bensol first aired in 1968 making the CD-ROM 28 years late to the party.
A sentient mist creature that can take the form of a human rises from an old well determined to cause havoc. It just so happens that this well is located on the same farm that host the Daily Planet's Annual Picnic. It has risen for the sole purpose of finding a new queen for their underground society and has chosen Lois Lane for that honour.
It can only be human when wearing clothes, but it has the added bonus of taking on the likeness and abilities of the costume's owner. Can it succeed in kidnapping Lois when Superman is nearby? Do you not know the answer already?
Out of all the episodes that make up the shows three seasons (there are over 60 of 'em!), I find it strange that The Mysterious Mr. Mist was the one chosen for adaptation. The villain is not well known and to my knowledge doesn't appear in the comics at all (do not confuse Mr. Mist with Doctor Mist created 10 years later).
Anyway, here are some points to take away from The Mysterious Mr. Mist:
- Jimmy Olsen has the most annoyingly screechy voice ever recorded
- With all the kidnapping and fireman lifts, the Mist People treat their prospective queens terribly
- Superman is a dumbass
- Lois Lane must be exhausted being attacked every five seconds (literally)
- Clark Kent is a real douche to Lois
