DISNEY'S ANIMATED STORYBOOK: POCAHONTAS

A year after The Lion King, in the Christmas of 1995, Pocahontas was released. This would be the third game in the series and the graphics were improving greatly. The graphics were less pixelated and the book pages were larger and even allowed for scrolling.

The games are bit more complicated this time, with four to choose from. The each have a difficulty setting, but it's more a case of extra levels than a greater complexity. First, you'll shoot arrows at their target but it's simple to do. You'll then play as Flit the hummingbird as he attempts to stop the racoon Meeko from eating all of the berries. There is also a randomised hide and seek game and a somewhat educational animal noises matching game.

As a film, Pocahontas ranks amongst the lowest on the Disney Classics. While it does have it's lovers, I couldn't get past the retconned history and the over-reliance on comedy animal sidekicks. The storybook connected with me more than the film as you can appreciate the fine artistry a lot more when your scouring the pages for things to click on. The story is shortened which is also a plus.
