I remember installing this a few years back and it would break my whole Windows install, so I had to reinstall everything and couldnt play this game again.
ReplyDeleteI really love that this game has no HUD, that you have to check your weapons for ammo etc. If they had impletmented more physics, it could've been a new Trespasser!

I think this game used controversial StarForce protection, no wonder your Windows did not revover after installation.
DeleteYou think right. It was StarForce. I found out the hard way. It just shows, again, that DRM is anti-consumer and really bad for game preservation.

ReplyDeleteNope. As far as I'm aware, it's the Starforce DRM that causes that and it's been patched out for this release. The Gamer's Edition didn't have this from the off.

ENHANCED GAMER'S EDITION it is still difficult to start. The graphics are full of artifacts and fading textures. This is completely unplayable.
ReplyDeleteLoading time is very long, more than 20 seconds on win7. Ingame, everything is alright. I didn't use the registry key.
ReplyDeleteThank you Biffman. I played through the enhanced gamers edition from beginning to end a few weeks ago thanks to your installer. I did run into a couple of issues but its a pretty janky game. I set my max FPS to 60 in Nvidia control panel and that really helped with a lot of the problems. I did get some strange graphical glitches from time to time but nothing that made it unplayable. Brought back good memories since I rented it and completed it one weekend on Xbox 360 (for an easy 1000 gamer score) back in the day.
ReplyDeleteThe game (signature edition) was working for me and now it black screens every time I try to launch it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I can't figure out why it won't run properly. Oddly enough this happened to the archive.org version (drm free version) for me too, where it was working and a few days later also black screened.
ReplyDeleteI figured it out! For some reason my Xbox controller (a Hyperkin Duke) causes the game to not work and just display a black screen. Very occasionally the game would actually run very slowly but eventually crash at the language select screen, but more often it would just blackscreen. WHAT A CRAZY SIMPLE SOLUTION to just unplug the controller and what a crazy hardware conflict!
