Christmas is coming! So it's about time I gave the Collection Chamber some love with games I should've added months ago. I've got a fair few prepared so I'll be adding one a day up until Christmas, hopefully culminating in a video before the year is out.
We begin with Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty (aka The Battle of Arakkis), the original real-time strategy from Westwood Studios. But it's not just that classic 1992 DOS game - it's also several ports and fan remakes too! If you loved Denis Villeneuve's recent feature film adaptation (and I'd question your taste in movies if you didn't), then you owe yourself to play it.
Before I leave, I should probably apologogise for the lack of posts in recent months. My real job, real-life and a real bout of man flu kept me away from anything more strenuous than watching Netflix on autoplay for a couple of weeks (don't worry, the PCR test said it wasn't Covid). At some point I'll even get around to those Star Trek games I left in limbo back in September...

ReplyDeleteAs far as the Star Trek Games go...how many are there left that you and Gog Haven't already released? The only thing I can think of is Fleet Command II/Orion Pirates and Legacy
ReplyDeleteWell, first off I haven't fully reviewed the ones from last time. And I've been hearing some have issues that need addressing.
DeleteOther than that, not including CD-Rom encyclopedia multimedia or console games, there's Starship Creator I & II, The Game Show, Trivia Challenge & Legacy. At least that's what I have left in my collection.
AH gotcha gotcha, was just curious. I didn't think about those games
DeleteI presume Dune 2000(the late 90's remake of this one using the more updated Westwood engine that was used for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert II) and Emperor of Dune are incoming as well?

ReplyDeleteDune 2 is a game I fondly remember. Its relationship with its Cryo-made elder brother (a rare adventure-strategy hybrid) is fascinating. The suggestion of a dynamic campaign (albeit a bit of a gimmick) with the sectors under the control of the three houses really tickled my imagination. But as you say, it was an unwieldy beast - my enduring memory is of advancing rows of tanks and rocket launchers incredibly slowly over the battlefield, one unit at a time. It looked and sounded so good though!

DeleteI haven't posted here for ages, but I noticed that Biffman was missing for several months and I felt the increasing alarm of many commenters. It's good to know that he is well. It's charming that he feels he needs to be apologise for his absence, but of course he doesn't, as he doesn't owe us anything. One game every day feels like overcompensating. Take it easy!
